Taylor Law & Mediation PLLC started in Mountain Home, Idaho, in 2013, and expanded to Boise, Idaho, in 2020. In 2021, Taylor Law & Mediation PLLC further expanded to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 2022 and into Pocatello, Idaho, in 2023. Today, we offer uncontested divorce services and wills and estate planning anywhere throughout the great state of Idaho and stepparent adoptions in the Treasure Valley and the Magic Valley.

Since 2013, we have concentrated on a small area of the law because we believe it’s better to do a few things well than do a bunch of things mediocre. Our approach to practicing law is simple: build trust with our clients and minimize friction points for them. We use technology to its full potential, which saves our clients both time and money. Uncontested Divorce

During an uncontested divorce, one party hires an attorney to draft the required paperwork to get divorced, the parties review and sign the paperwork, and in most cases, can get divorced without having to appear in front of a judge. A lot of people can decide the outcome of their divorce themselves and just need help drafting and filing the required paperwork. Divorce doesn’t have to suck. Nor does it have to be expensive and time-consuming. Contact us to learn more about our uncontsed divorce services.

Uncontested Divorce Cost & Fees

A question you might have is, “How much will this cost?” At Taylor Law & Meditation PLLC, we do our best to answer this question upfront with a flat fee, which is due prior to the start of representation. This allows you to focus on your case and not worry about additional costs. In most uncontested divorces, fees are between $1,000-$3,500, depending on individual circumstances.

In addition, there is a $207 filing fee to file a Petition for Divorce. If you have children, there is a fee to attend the court-ordered focus on the children class, but this requirement can be waived in some circumstances.

Wills

A will, also referred to as a last will and testament, is a key part of your estate plan.  A will describes how your assets, including personal property and real estate, will be distributed after your death. You can indicate how specific gifts should be distributed.

If you have minor children, you will also use your will to appoint a guardian to take care of your children if you die before they turn 18 and to appoint a trustee to manage any assets you leave them (they may be the same person).

When you complete a will, you control what happens to your property and who will raise and provide for your children.

Stepparent Adoption

Stepparent adoption is exactly what it sounds like: when a stepparent completes the adoption process to adopt one or more stepchildren. At Taylor Law & Mediation PLLC, we think of stepparent adoptions in two categories:

  • termination stepparent adoptions; and
  • non-termination stepparent adoptions.

Termination refers to the need to also complete the necessary legal proceedings for termination of an existing parent and child relationship.

There are some circumstances where it is not necessary to terminate a parent and child relationship prior to beginning the adoption proceedings. In situations where it is necessary to terminate a parent and child relationship prior to the court granting a stepparent adoption, the proceedings can occur together.

Indicates simple wills or trusts with no tax planning or sub-trust provisions (ie for spouses, children’s trusts, or special needs trusts for a disabled person).

** For our clients choosing a trust-based plan, we always provide instructions on how to “fund” the trust.  Funding is the process of re-titling your assets in the name of the trust.  Some clients prefer that our office assist them with certain aspects of funding, such as transferring real property or business interests to the trust or naming the trust as a beneficiary of life insurance.  We welcome the opportunity to assist with our clients’ trust funding, and will quote fees for these additional services up front at the time a client requests this assistance.
